John Anderson

Founder

John Anderson is a former U.S. Naval Aviator and professional commercial pilot. During his time in the Navy, John served 3 years in Vietnam, during which time he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V”. He also served as the Flight Deck Officer aboard the USS Princeton which recovered the Apollo 10 astronauts. Following his Navy service, John worked as an experimental test pilot and as the Aviation Manager of a large corporate flight department. In 1993 John founded A’Weigh We Go, the predecessor to RVSEF. After purchasing an RV that experienced frequent tire failures from an overweight condition, he decided to pursue an effort to educate the RV community about safety issues, with a goal of bringing about a harmonious collective effort among the various segments of the RV industry, including consumers, dealers, suppliers and manufacturers.

Randy Biles

President

Randy Biles has been in the RV industry since 1972 when he opened Pikes Peak Traveland in Colorado Springs CO. Randy is the President of the Board of Directors of RVSEF, the past President of Colorado Recreational Vehicle Association and past Chairman of Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association. He is presently Co-Chairman of RVDA Industry Relations Committee, Chairman of the RVDA Fork Lift Safety task force and Chairman of RVDA Fleetwood RV Brand Committee. Randy also currently serves on the following committees: Technician Certification Board, the RVDA Past Chairman’s Roundtable and is the treasurer for Recreation Vehicle Assistance Corporation. Randy also does RV Industry consulting for DeMatteo Monies Consulting, Gerson Lehman Group (GLG) and is a participant with the Round Table Group. Randy and his family have been traveling by RV since 1970 and currently use a motorhome for vacation and other business travel.

Garth Cane

Secretary

Garth Cane is Chairman of the Canadian Standards Association Z240 Committees, and has volunteered for CSA since 2004. For the last 24 years, he has been the Technical Director for RV Lifestyle Magazine, Canada’s source for information about recreational vehicle travel, and is editor of the Annual Source Directory published in RV Lifestyle Dealer News. He was a sales and service consultant to Hogan Leisure Industries from 1971 to 1991, and was a Professor at Mohawk College where he taught the RV Apprenticeship Program. He is a member of the Automotive Journalist Association of Canada, and delivers seminars at many consumer RV Shows in Canada. He has been a member of the Board of RVSEF for the last eight years.

Curt Hemmeler

Board Member

Curt Hemmeler is the President of RVTI and a Senior Vice President of RVIA. Curt is managing the establishment and launch of the RV Technical Institute’s new headquarters and training facility, as well as managing and executing the strategic business plan. He brings 20 years of professional experience in technical education and training to the RV Technical Institute. Prior to joining the institute, Curt was the vice president of operations and strategy for WyoTech, a division of Zenith Education that trains auto and diesel technicians. In that position, he led a team of over 300 across three locations. He has extensive experience with the sales, marketing, fundraising and developing community partnership. Curt is looking forward to building a first-class technical and educational program that will ensure that the RV industry’s success continues for generations and generations to come.

NeVelle Skaggs

Board Member

NeVelle Skaggs is the owner of Skaggs RV. He grew up in the camping lifestyle with his parents and their active camping schedule during his childhood years. Skaggs RV Outlet LLC has become recognized as being one of the leading RV dealers in the Louisville Kentucky area. NeVelle is very active in the community in such organizations as the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce and the local 4-H. NeVelle has been a firefighter for the last 36 years with 10 years as an officer including 3 years as Fire Chief and currently sits on the Board of Directors and the Hardin County Fire Advisory Board. NeVelle is also active in the (RVDA) Recreational Vehicle Dealer Association for the past 16 years as a Kentucky state delegate.

Michael Hayn

Board Member

Michael Hayn is a Senior Field Engineer in the United States Central Region for Bridgestone Americas. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois. Mike has worked for Bridgestone for 19 years in a variety of positions including manufacturing quality control and auditing, standards and process development, technical support to original equipment commercial truck and trailer manufacturers, as well as supporting light truck commercial and special service applications, including emergency and recreational vehicles, within North America.

Walter Cannon

Board Member - Director Emeritus

Walter Cannon is a 30 year RV industry veteran, Walter has been with the nonprofit since its 1993 inception as A’Weigh We Go, (AWWG). He began as Director of Operations under founder John Anderson. John selected Mr. Cannon recognizing his experience and ability to take the organization beyond a consumer base. Walter and Amy spent fifteen years as Full Time RV enthusiast while working with RVSEF. This experience provides a truly unique perspective to Mr. Cannons’ efforts promoting RV Safety. It’s also given potential and current RV owners the opportunity to learn from him at major RV Shows, Rallies, conventions and the annual RVSEF Technical Education and Safety Conference. Walter continues to teach RV enthusiasts and professionals about the importance of RV Safety. His seminars and classes span the gamut from Tire safety, Properly Matching Trucks and Trailers to every facet of RV load management. In 2010 The RVIA presented Mr. Cannon with the Industry Service Award for his efforts in Safety and Lifestyle education. He presently serves as an Informational Member on the RVIA Standard Steering Committee, works with Consumers, Dealers, Distributors, Manufacturers, Government Regulators and both the RVIA and RVDA providing reviews for RV Technician materials.
